Writers get a lot of things: Freedom, creativity, and picking their own work hours.

But do Writers get sick days?

The short answer is no. Most writers work for themselves and therefore don't have the luxury for getting paid when they don't work. It is a great shame because writers often feel overworked and burnt out. Possibly to the lack of sick days.

Allowing yourself to take an unpaid sick day as a writer is something that needs to happen every so often. You might be taken by the flu, a bad cold, or RSI. Whatever the cause, everyone needs some time to rest.

Another option for a sick day is to hire a freelancer to help you finish your work on time. I, myself, help people write blog posts online so they can reach a high ranking in the search engine without them having to lift a finger.

We Can Take Any Day Off We Want

Although this is a beautiful thought to have when you first start out as a freelance writer, it's simply not true. Technically, of course, it is; but having the mindset that you can take any day off you feel like can be toxic to your newly formed career.

As a freelancer, there will be times of a lot of work and times without any. You want to really utilize the busy times as much as you can so you ride out the dry spells without too much stress and worry.

During the dry spells, you of course what to continue optimizing your website, portfolio, blog or whatever platform you use to showcase your work. Work hard at it, learn as much as you can about this business and put in the effort to attract more clients.

Being a writer and taking sick days whenever you feel the need, feels good in theory but in reality, writers never get a day off.
