Performative Matcha. That’s the latest thing, right? Using Matcha as a prop in all the Tik Tok videos. I mean, why not, right? Matcha’s fantastic. It’s delicious, I think it’s good for you - before you add any sweeteners, of course. What a great thing to have as a business write off.
But why ‘Performative’? Many people are using Matcha as a prop and not an actual drink. Do those influences even like Matcha? Are they drinking it or just using it to increase views? Is it helping them grow?
Maybe the answer is yes.
Maybe simply using something as a prop boosts views.
In a way, using something in a performative way is a bit like SEO.
SEO, Search Engine Optimisation, is where you use trending or popular keywords to help boost your ranking in Google and on search engines.
A bit like using Matcha as a prop. People search Matcha, like the videos with Matcha in it so therefore get suggested with content that contains Matcha.
If you are using keywords that people regularly search for and like, read and engage with content using similar keywords to you - you’ll be ranked higher on google and even suggested to people searching the internet with the keywords you used.
Woah!
Are the people using Performative Matcha in their content using their props strategically to rank higher on Tik Tok? Damn. Influencers are pretty tech savvy these days.
If you want to know what the trending keywords are, check out Google Trends:
You can discover what’s trending in your local area or far and wide around the globe. You can catch onto what’s currently trending, what’s growing in the ranks and what used to trend. All helpful information to grow your content in the eyes of the search engine.
Using keywords alone won’t help. Just like posting a lone picture of Matcha won’t actually boost rankings. You have to know what you’re doing.
Here are some tips:
Use Trending Keywords In A Unique Way.
Say the keyword is Beach - you can search Beach House, Beach Holiday, Beach Chats etc.
Just like with Matcha - you can search Matcha Recipe, Matcha Spills, Matcha Handbag. If you match the trending word with a unique word, you are more likely to be found.
Here’s why: If everyone uses the term “Matcha Recipe” the internet will be flooded with billions of recipes for Matcha. The most clicked on link using the keywords with rank higher. Therefore, the most popular content creators will continue to become more popular.
However.
If you are the only one saying “Matcha Recipe In Handbag” You will show up when someone searches “Matcha Recipe” but also when someone searches “Handbag.”
A little secret - Google and other search engines remember what you search. If some has searched Matcha a lot and then the following day they search “Handbags” - guess what will show up. That’s right, your “Matcha Recipe In Handbag” content. Just like magic.
The more keywords you use, the higher you’ll rank BUT if you use too many Google will think you’re spam.
That’s right. It’s a pain. There’s no magic number. Make sure your keywords match your content and make sense.
The more clicks you get and the more engagement you receive will also help your rankings.
I wish it was all about keywords. But it’s not. It’s also about how many people click on your content and how long they hang around. The more clicks and a lengthy engagement time will also help you climb to the top of those Google pages.
Get those keywords into your content, make your content useful and make it engaging.
When in doubt, drink Matcha and enjoy the rankings.
