Getting book deals and working professionally as a writer is everything we dream of. Our editor hitting us up and checking how many words we wrote that day - dreams coming true.

It can feel like a dream before you actually do it. The reality of sitting down and writing at the same time every day and banging out thousands upon thousands of words can be quite the drag.

Getting into the habit before you become professional can be the key to how many writers made that leap into professionalism. For me, I love to write in the mornings - on the weekends and before work, I sit up with my cup of coffee and type away.

Creating a time where you sit and write without distractions creates a space fo you to solely focus on your writing.

How do you turn that time into professional writing?

Eventually, you'll run out of things to do - you'll finish your book, or you'll need a break but you'll still have half an hour on the clock. Perhaps you'll turn to blogging or freelancing or some other way you can make money with your writing - if you do know another way, please leave me a comment.

Making space for your writing doesn't mean you have to no to everything else. I know there are some extroverted writers out there - I can't be the only one - and we all love a cath up with out mates and a bit of excitement in our lives.

Carving this time out is to get you in the habit of writing consistently and often. But, in saying that, if a calls up and invites you out there's no reason for you to say no - unless you've made it to the deadline phase.

I love to get up and sit at my desk with my morning coffee and write, but if I'm invited out for breakfast, or I'm away with friends, or something else happens - I don't push it, I know I've set up the space and time so it'll be easy getting back into the routine when craziness dies down.

Just because you write doesn't mean you need to stop living.
