There’s nothing really to support at the moment. The answer is yes and no - the worst answer.
They love what I write and encourage me to keep going - but to quit my job and write full time would be a big no no. At least for now.
Growing up, my parents always said writing is a hobby, find a job and write on the side.
I disagreed, I threw my heart and soul into my writing - now? Now I work full time and write on the side.
Writing is a hobby, until you can make it your career. Just like any entrepreneur. When entrepreneurs start a business in their basement, they do it on the side until it becomes something, just like writers.
But you can’t treat it like a hobby. If you treat writing like a hobby, it’ll always be a hobby. Treat it like an inbetween - you have the same amount of time for it as a hobby but this is your career in the making.
Just like uni students spend hours on projects and assignments they are earning no money from, you too, have to do the same.
In short answer: Do my family support my writing? Sometimes.
