Goals And Resolutions

A classic new year story

A box with a sticker reading "new" on it.

This year has been a heck of a year. I’m sure you’re sick of hearing about it from me.

But let’s go over them again. Starting with 2025; the bad, then the good, then the goals.

The difficulties of this year:

I became ill for months.

I discovered mold in my flat and found moisture had no way of escaping from the bathroom.

The fan took the moisture into the roof and left it there.

I argued with the property manager who blamed us, the tenants, for the mold.

I then argued with a flatmate who didn’t want any drama with the property manager. Then we all decided to move out together, only for this flatmate to sabotage every attempt at leaving. Then stating we should keep living there for another six months until she wanted to go traveling.

I moved out and she refused to give me my bond back. It took months of arguing but she eventually handed it over.

Then seasonal depression hit — hard. Joint pain, tastebud changes, tears, waking up feeling like I’d been hit by a truck. Life was hard but summer came back and so did my energy levels.

Now, The Good:

I settled back into life in New Zealand and enjoyed my first summer in this country. It was blissful, I explored new areas.

I went to Waiheke:

Walked the Abel Tasman:

Swam in Kai Iwi Lakes:

I left Instagram (still going strong):

Created my own website:

Published my novel:

And sold out at a market:

Goals for next year:

Get What’s Left into more bookstores and sell at as many markets as I possibly can.

Edit and publish my 2nd novel — the sequel to What’s Left.

Write more consistently on Medium.

Answer questions consistently on Reddit.

Publish consistently on my website.

Save enough money for a trip to a sunny destination in Winter time.

What are your goals for 2026?
