The basics for any skill are important to be aware of. Boiling an egg, making a bed, and writing techniques.
Even people who've been writing for years and have many books published need to brush up on the basics to remind them how to continue making their prose shine.
Recently I had some beta-reader feedback that sent me straight back to googling "how to write a novel."
And the points I reminded myself of were really insightful. Of course I've learned all of this previously, but just like learning how to ground yourself in yoga, you need to learn to ground yourself in writing also.
The basics of writing:
Sentence structure
Paragraph structure.
How to write dialogue.
How to create a character.
I encourage you to jump on Google and remind yourself of these basics. The only way to elevate your writing and make it shine on the page is by mastering the basics - and can you ever really master them? There's only one way to find out.
Reminding yourself of the simple aspects of writing will help you shine and grow with beautiful prose and pacing of your stories.
Reteach yourself to boil an egg. Reteach yourself sentence structure. This can really elevate your writing.
