What happens if writing doesn't work out?

Starting a writing career is a big jump, a huge leap, and it's a scary one.
You might be young and new to the workforce, a time in your life to build up the skills employers are looking for and to learn from past employees how the jobs get done.
You might have been in the workforce for years and looking to jump into a freelancing career. Both places you are in are brilliant places to be.
It can be a worry to think about "what happens if freelancing doesn't work out" because we all know we love dreaming about the opposite.
Freelancing does have specific skills for freelancing - email campaigns, writing, publishing, networking...
But in actual fact, these skills are highly transferable.
Email campaigns - and doing them well - is a sought after skill when it comes to marketing, the ability to string words into a sentence and communicate in a clear and concise manner is necessary for just about any industry, all the steps in publishing something - working with others, taking criticism, design... All sought after skills.
Even just sticking with something long enough to give it a go and to push through the difficult times - a skill a lot of people don't have.
Give writing a good go, and just know the skills you are using and the skills you are building while walking down this path, are highly sought after in just about any field.
