This book in particular, is close to my heart. I love every single one of my characters, every single one of my story lines (even the ones that didn’t make it into the final manuscript), and I love every word on the page.
This story is for those who are waiting for their turn to thrive. Whatever their circumstance, perhaps they're still waiting for their dream job, struggling to make ends meet, or perhaps life threw them a curve ball and they struggle to get out of bed in the morning. This is a story for them.
All these people are fighters and are pushing through every obstacle that comes their way. They are warriors.
Growing up, I always dreamed about the life I wanted. I couldn’t wait to grow up, be constantly travelling the world, writing my bestsellers and it felt like all I was doing was waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
Then one day, I felt like I was on the verge of something. I was starting to enter the entertainment business, I got to know actors, directors and producers - it felt like I was going somewhere and building towards the life I had always dreamed about-
Then,
Life hit me with a curveball and just like Michelle, I struggled to get out of bed in the morning. I struggled to lift my toothbrush, I couldn’t work 12 hour days, I lost my passion and couldn’t work towards my goals. Just like Michelle, my energy levels would bounce around. Sometimes I would have the energy to spend time with friends, work on projects, work full time, and get all the chores done. While sometimes, I couldn’t get out of bed because the sheets were too heavy for me to lift.
Even when I was well, the fear that my energy would disappear lived in the back of my mind. Just like Jordi, I felt like there was something invisible people weren’t quite seeing, there was something I needed but I wasn’t sure what.
At the age of 19 I spent a lot of time with my Grandma in the retirement home where she lived. It takes a lot of energy - emotional and physical - to care for someone. It can drain you but it can also liven you up - depends on the day. You become absorbed into their world and it’s so easy to forget there is anything else that exists. It’s easy to forget that you exist.
This book is for all the people that feel like there is something not quite right, something they need but quite get. It’s for the people who are carers and need care, the ones lifting the weight of society on their back and breaking themselves to help others grow.
To all those people, you are doing a fantastic job. I see you.
Grandmas, Grandpas, Mothers, Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, Daughters, Sons. Everyone who quietly gets on with their day, lifting the sheets off their bed, handing out those compliments, pushing those wheelchairs, driving those loved ones to their appointments, feeding those who can’t feed themselves. We see you. We thank you.
