What books or magazines do you read regularly? Which ones would you recommend to aspiring writers?

I read a lot of Stephen King - I love the way he gets into the head of every single character, you feel like you are looking at the world through their eyes - and that is a very difficult thing to achieve.

I think the most important thing an aspiring writer can do is to read what they like to read. Everything you read, look at, and hear about will inspire and influence your own writing. If you are reading something you dislike, you’ll not only be bored, you’ll also start writing in a way you don’t like.

Read what you like and let that subconsciously influence you.

In terms of learning the craft of writing, there is no one ‘go to’ that I have. I usually just google a question and see what pops up.

Reedsy is a good place to go.

Jenna Moreci is great for the business side of writing.

The Creative Penn is also a good one.

These are the people, blogs, websites and communities that resonate with me - you might resonate with them too, or you might not. Both are okay.

A must read for all writers when it comes to books:

  • Stephen King’s On Writing

  • Blake Snyder’s Save The Cat

  • The Hidden Tools of Comedy: The Serious Business of Being Funny

  • Selling Your Story in 60 Seconds

These are all books I’ve read and they’ve seriously alleviated the game.
