What Inspired This Upcoming Book?

The Inspiration came from my Media Studies class in highschool. That was the very first droplet of the idea. We started learning about movie conventions and character conventions. I wrote this all down and tried to write characters based on the stereotypes - Princess, Nerd, Rebel, Athlete, and The Emo.
I tried writing these characters as their stereotype but it just didn’t sit well (nor has this aged well).
I wrote them in various stories throughout the years trying to make them fit as my teacher had stated they would.
But they didn’t.
As I wrote them I fell in love with each character and knew I had to create something with them. Eventually I made some tough choices, dropped one of the stereotypes, merged the others deviating away from the classic character arcs and story structures to create my novel What’s Left…
I really wanted to write a book that had some form of a comment on society and I’ve always been intrigued by contradictions of people and how society runs. I decided to make the characters as contradictory as possible - making the princess a bit of a rebel, making the emo a bit of an athlete, making the nerd a bit of a rebel (there’s 5, I can’t make it even) and see what would happen.
If you’ve read my book and think you can guess which is which and who is who, leave it in the comments - I may or may not let you know if you’re right.
With a lot of financial worries ahead of us, I wanted to see if I could break the stigma against not having a lot of money - and show no matter how wealthy or financially struggling you are, we all need the same things.
Society and Media Studies class gave me the initial inspiration for this book.
