What is your least favourite part of being a writer?

Writing.
Can you believe that? What a stupid answer.
But it’s true. The thing I like the least about being a writer is writing. I love writing, it’s just my least favourite part. The amount of work that needs to be put in to create something that has never lived a day in its life. The effort to create a world and people and situations, it’s exhausting. Fun but exhausting.
Life in your book has never existed before, you have to write their personalities, relationships, know their backstories, you have to know what the world looks like and feels like for every character. The situations the characters get themselves into must be believable, entertaining and unique.
I write one page and I need a nap.
Writing can be really hard for most writers, we like to plan our stories, some of us even like to promote our stories, and editing - honestly - is a blast; but with techniques and routines in place, we can get that book finished before you know it.
My favourite techniques to help me complete a book:
Routine. Once the idea of sitting down, opening your laptop, and holding your hands to the keyboard becomes mindless - the rest gets a little bit easier.
Set a timer for 60seconds and see how much you can write in that time.
Remember, it’s easy to make a business fail, it’s a marathon to keep it running. You might not feel like you’re getting anywhere but each step you take brings you one step closer to your goal.
And then on to the fun part - editing!
