How it feels to constantly question your abilities.
How it feels to constantly question your abilities.

Asking yourself "Am I good enough?" "Am I where I need to be?" "Where am I on this journey?" Are really tough questions to ask. They're tough to hear and they're tough to answer.

Let's start at the beginning and ask ourselves "why." Why do you feel the need to compare?

Sometimes it can be because we are surrounding ourselves with people in a different stage of life to us, sometimes it can be because we view a lot of content of people skipping the hard bits of life, sometimes we receive feedback and it knocks our confidence.

This happens, it's normal. Let's get you back up on your feet so you can get writing again.

Every writer goes through tough patches that make them question their own abilities. It's normal, it's not fun but it's normal and it won't last. That's the good thing about life and about writing - the tough patches don't last.

The most important advice I can give you here is:

Never compare yourself to the Greats.

Hemmingway

Bronte

King

Can you get there and be a Great yourself? Of course you can. I have no doubt. But right now, you need to compare yourself with people who are in the same boat as you.

Check out Facebook groups, in person groups, find writers on line or at courses and see where they are at, what they are doing and how they are doing it. See if there is anything you can learn from them and if there is anything you can help them with.

This is called connecting and networking.

We all need supporters.

As long as you are on track to where you want to be and you are pushing yourself further forward, you're doing a great job.

Where are you on your writers journey? Hopefully moving forward.
